United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 14 - Life Below Water! JCI Sunway Damansara and Orang Asli Pantai Cunang Tanjung Sepat Join Forces to Clean Up Pantai Cunang!!!

On June 17, 2023, a remarkable beach cleaning initiative took place at Pantai Cunang Tanjung Sepat, organized by JCI Sunway Damansara in collaboration with the Orang Asli community Tanjung Sepat. With a shared commitment to promoting a cleaner environment and supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), specifically Goal No. 14 - Life Below Water, these dedicated volunteers worked tirelessly to combat the issue of floating garbage polluting the beach.

The Challenge of Waste Disposal:
The disposal of waste and its impact on the environment has become a global concern. Despite efforts to raise awareness and implement waste management systems, a significant amount of trash still finds its way into natural habitats. Pantai Cunang, unfortunately, has not been spared from this issue, experiencing the continuous influx of new floating garbage.

The Ongoing Efforts:
Recognizing the urgency to protect the marine ecosystem, the Orang Asli community at Pantai Cunang has taken the lead in cleaning up the beach. Their consistent efforts have played a crucial role in minimizing the environmental impact caused by the accumulating trash. The initiative has now received support from JCI Sunway Damansara, a local organization committed to driving positive change in the community.

The Beach Cleaning Project:
With a total of 28 dedicated volunteers participating, including 17 individuals who traveled all the way from Kuala Lumpur with average 180km round trip per person, the beach cleaning project at Pantai Cunang was a resounding success. Together, we cleared an impressive 202.9 kilograms of rubbish that did not belong to the beach. Our hard work and commitment to the cause exemplify the spirit of environmental stewardship and the importance of community engagement.

Promoting Sustainable Development Goal 14:
The initiative aligns perfectly with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal No. 14 - Life Below Water. This goal aims to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources, urging collective action to address the challenges of marine pollution and ecosystem degradation. By actively participating in the beach cleaning project, the volunteers demonstrated their dedication to achieving this goal and preserving the marine environment for future generations.

The Power of Collaboration:
The successful collaboration between the JCI Sunway Damansara and Orang Asli community Tanjung Sepat serves as a shining example of what can be accomplished through united efforts. By combining their resources, expertise, and passion for environmental conservation, these individuals have made a tangible difference in the fight against ocean pollution.

Conclusion:
The beach cleaning project at Pantai Cunang, led by the Orang Asli community and supported by JCI Sunway Damansara, stands as a testament to the power of community engagement and collective action. Their unwavering commitment to the cause, as well as their dedication to promoting Sustainable Development Goal 14, serves as an inspiration for others to join the movement towards a cleaner and more sustainable future. By raising awareness, implementing effective waste management strategies, and encouraging responsible behavior, we can ensure that our oceans and marine life thrive, free from the burden of pollution.
